Grand Preparations Underway for Shravani Mela; Baba Bholenath to Be Adorned in Unique Forms on All Four Somwar, Special Emphasis on Pilgrim Convenience
BHAGALPUR/SULTANGANJ: The world-class Shravani Mela, held annually in the sacred lands of Deoghar and Sultanganj, stands as the premier center of Sanatani culture and devotion to Lord Shiva. To make this year's Shravani Mela historic, divine, and entirely secure, the district administration and temple trust board have rolled up their sleeves. A special plan has been crafted to elevate the faith of the millions of pilgrims visiting during the mela and to offer them glimpses of Lord Shiva's unique forms. This time, across all four Mondays (Somwar) of the Shravani Mela, Baba Bholenath will be specially adorned in distinct and mesmerizing forms, serving as the central attraction for devotees.
Divine Darshan of Baba Across All Four Mondays
Every Monday falling during the Shravani Mela holds immense religious significance. To ensure that Shiva devotees visiting this mela can experience the blessings of Lord Shankar's various forms, special preparations are underway by priests and artisans.
First Monday - Chandrashekhar and Rudra Form: On the first Monday of the mela, Baba will be adorned in the 'Chandrashekhar' and 'Rudra' forms of Lord Shiva. On this day, the temple will be specially decorated with flowers and bel leaves, instilling a renewed sense of energy among devotees.
Second Monday - Ardhanarishvara Form: The second Monday will be exceptionally special, as Baba Bholenath will be adorned alongside Mother Parvati in the 'Ardhanarishvara' form. This form symbolizes the balance of creation and the union of masculine and feminine energy, a mere glimpse of which dispels all sorrows of the devotees.
Third Monday - Tripund and Tridish Adornment of Bholenath: On the third Monday, Baba will be decorated grandly with sacred ash (bhasma), sandalwood, and a variety of fragrant flowers. The divine court will be specially set up amidst the chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
Fourth Monday - Ashutosh and Mahakal Form: On the final and fourth Monday of the Shravani Mela, Baba will receive a divine adornment in his Mahakal and Ashutosh forms. The decor of this day will be so grand that Kanwariyas arriving from far and wide will want to capture the sight permanently in their cameras and memories.
Pilgrim Convenience and Security Paramount
During the holy month of Sawan, a flood of Kanwariyas pours in from Sultanganj to Deoghar. Keeping this in mind, the administration has made 'pilgrim convenience and security' its utmost priority this time. Learning from the experiences of past years, several new arrangements have been implemented:
Smooth Water Offering System: Robust barricading has been set up for devotees, ranging from fetching holy water at the Uttarvahini Ganga ghats to walking along the Kanwariya route, to prevent any stampede or inconvenience amidst the heavy crowds.
Health and Drinking Water Camps: Health camps, medical teams, ambulances, and free pure drinking water facilities are being established at various points along the Kanwariya path. Given the scorching sun and humid weather of Sawan, the range of sheds (shade structures) and rest houses along the route has also been expanded.
CCTV and Drone Monitoring: As part of stringent security arrangements, CCTV cameras are being installed across the entire mela zone and Uttarvahini Ganga ghats. Additionally, drone cameras will keep a sharp eye on antisocial elements and crowds to ensure law and order remain completely under control.
Joint Meeting of Administration and Local Committees
Recently, a high-level coordination meeting took place between senior district administration officials, police department representatives, and members of the local Panda community. This meeting ensured that no pilgrim faces any difficulty in having darshan or performing worship rituals. Timings have also been logically structured to ensure smooth darshan for both VVIPs and general devotees.
Rigorous Arrangements for Cleanliness and Lighting
Maintaining sanitation amidst massive crowds numbering in the lakhs is a major challenge. Keeping this in view, municipal council and sanitation worker teams have been deployed around the clock to oversee the cleanliness of the ghats and routes. Furthermore, LED lights and high-mast lamps are being installed along the entire route to ensure Kanwariyas face no trouble during the night.
The Entire Region Imbued with Shiva's Spirit
As the Shravani Mela draws near, the entire Bhagalpur and Sultanganj region has begun to resonate with chants of "Bam Bam Bhole" and "Har Har Mahadev." With the divine adornments of Baba scheduled for all four Mondays and the foolproof arrangements put in place by the administration, this year's grand congregation will not only be religiously magnificent but will also prove to be an extremely pleasant and secure experience for the pilgrims.
