Government Tibbi College and Hospital's New Campus to Be Ready by 2027; ₹245.5 Crore Project to Increase Capacity to 200 Beds
Patna: In a major step toward strengthening traditional Unani medicine in Bihar, the Government Tibbi College and Hospital is set to get a modern new campus by 2027. The new facility is being constructed on 10 acres of land within the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) campus at an estimated cost of ₹245.5 crore. Once completed, the hospital's bed capacity will increase from the current 120 beds to 200 beds, enabling it to provide improved treatment and inpatient care to patients from across the state.
The announcement was made during the centenary celebration of the Government Tibbi College and Hospital on Tuesday, where the college administration presented the project's roadmap and showcased the architectural design of the upcoming campus.
Development Plan Unveiled During Centenary Celebration
As part of the institution's 100th anniversary celebrations, the college administration highlighted both its achievements over the past century and its vision for the future.
A detailed presentation introduced the new campus, emphasizing that it has been designed to meet modern standards of medical education, healthcare delivery, and research. Doctors, faculty members, students, and guests attending the event described the project as a significant milestone for Unani medical education in Bihar.
New Campus Being Built at a Cost of ₹245.5 Crore
According to the college administration, the new campus is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹245.5 crore.
The project will include a modern hospital building, academic blocks, advanced laboratories, administrative offices, a well-equipped library, student facilities, and state-of-the-art medical infrastructure. Officials said the campus is being planned to meet future healthcare and educational needs.
Construction on 10 Acres Inside NMCH Campus
The new Government Tibbi College and Hospital campus is being built on approximately 10 acres within the NMCH campus.
The project will feature improved internal roads, parking facilities, landscaped green spaces, modern drainage systems, and other essential civic infrastructure. Authorities said the campus is being developed in line with the standards of contemporary medical institutions.
Hospital Capacity to Increase to 200 Beds
At present, the Government Tibbi College and Hospital has a capacity of 120 beds.
With the addition of 80 new beds, the hospital's total capacity will increase to 200 beds. This expansion will allow the institution to admit more patients, particularly those requiring specialized treatment and individuals traveling from distant districts.
Around 500 Patients Visit the OPD Daily
Principal Prof. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman said that nearly 500 patients visit the hospital's Outpatient Department (OPD) every day.
He explained that due to the shortage of beds, many patients are currently unable to obtain admission for inpatient treatment. The additional beds in the new facility are expected to significantly ease this problem.
College and Hospital to Shift by 2027
Prof. Rahman stated that once construction is completed, the college and hospital will be shifted from their existing premises to the new campus by 2027.
After the relocation, all teaching, research, and healthcare services will be conducted from the new facility, providing students and patients with access to modern infrastructure and improved medical resources.
Boost for Medical Education
The new campus is expected to strengthen not only hospital services but also Unani medical education and research.
It will feature advanced laboratories, digital classrooms, upgraded research facilities, an enriched library, and improved training infrastructure, creating a better academic environment for students.
Improved Healthcare Facilities for Patients
The upcoming hospital will provide more comfortable patient wards, advanced diagnostic services, improved OPD facilities, cleaner surroundings, spacious waiting areas, and enhanced treatment services.

Healthcare experts believe the project will play an important role in strengthening the Unani system of medicine in Bihar.
