Former Minister and Ex-MP Arjun Rai Joins BJP, Says ‘Only a Double-Engine Government Can Ensure Sitamarhi’s Development’
Patna: Bihar witnessed another significant political development on Monday as former minister and former Member of Parliament Arjun Rai joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after resigning from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
He was formally inducted into the BJP during a function held at the party’s state headquarters in Patna. BJP State President Sanjay Saraogi welcomed him into the party by administering the membership. The event was attended by several senior BJP leaders, including Bihar Minister Nitish Mishra, along with party office-bearers and workers. Several other leaders also joined the BJP during the program.
Arjun Rai’s entry into the BJP is being viewed as an important political development in Bihar ahead of future elections. Political observers believe such realignments could influence electoral equations in several regions of the state.
Formal Induction at BJP State Headquarters
The membership ceremony was organized at the BJP’s state office in Patna, where party leaders welcomed Arjun Rai into the organization.
State President Sanjay Saraogi presented him with the party scarf and formally inducted him into the BJP. Senior leaders present at the event expressed confidence that Arjun Rai’s political experience and public support would strengthen the party’s organizational structure.
Why Did Arjun Rai Leave the RJD?
Addressing the gathering after joining the BJP, Arjun Rai said that he had devoted many years to public service and had envisioned several development projects for Sitamarhi during his tenure as a Member of Parliament.
He stated that many of those development initiatives could not be completed or implemented as expected. According to him, joining the BJP would provide a better opportunity to contribute to the region’s development.
While explaining his decision, Arjun Rai refrained from making personal remarks against the RJD leadership and emphasized that his move was guided by the interests of development and public welfare.
Expresses Faith in the “Double-Engine Government”
Arjun Rai said that when the same political alliance governs both the state and the central government, development projects can be implemented more efficiently.
He added that Sitamarhi and several parts of North Bihar still have significant potential for growth in areas such as roads, education, healthcare, irrigation, industry, and employment. Better coordination between the Union and state governments, he said, could accelerate development.
He expressed confidence that working through the BJP would enable him to fulfill the aspirations of the people of his constituency more effectively.
BJP Leaders Welcome the Move
BJP State President Sanjay Saraogi welcomed Arjun Rai into the party, saying that the BJP values every leader and worker who joins its organization.
He remarked that Arjun Rai’s long political experience would be an asset to the party and strengthen its presence in Bihar.
Bihar Minister Nitish Mishra also welcomed him, stating that the BJP continues to expand its organizational base and that the inclusion of experienced leaders from different backgrounds would further reinforce the party.
Several Other Leaders Also Join BJP
Apart from Arjun Rai, several other political leaders and supporters also joined the BJP during the membership ceremony.
Party leaders indicated that more leaders from different political parties could join the BJP in the coming days, although no official names were announced.
Political Activity Intensifies in Bihar
Arjun Rai’s decision to switch parties has generated considerable discussion in Bihar’s political circles.
Political analysts believe that with elections approaching, various parties are working to strengthen their organizations and attract influential leaders to improve their electoral prospects.
In such a political environment, the defection of a senior leader is considered significant and may affect regional political dynamics.
Possible Impact on Sitamarhi Politics
Arjun Rai has remained an active political figure in Sitamarhi for many years and is considered to have a strong support base in the region.
Political observers believe that his joining the BJP could reshape political equations in Sitamarhi and neighboring areas, although the actual impact will become clear only in future elections.

Political observers expect reactions and counter-statements from rival parties, making the issue a fresh topic of political debate in the coming days.
