FIR Lodged and Investigation Intensified into Brutal Killing of Retired Bank Cashier and Wife in Mithanpura
A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in the Rambagh Chaudi area under the Mithanpura police station limits of Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. Ashok Kunwar, a retired bank cashier from Punjab National Bank, and his wife, Neelam Kunwar, were brutally murdered inside their own home by unidentified criminals. This double murder has created widespread panic across the area, leaving local residents deeply frightened and outraged. An official First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Mithanpura police station based on a statement given by the victims' son, Nikhil Kunwar, prompting the police and administration to accelerate their investigation.
Incident Details and How It Came to Light
The crime took place inside a three-story residential building located in the Rambagh area. The deceased couple, Ashok Kunwar (aged approximately 65) and his wife Neelam Kunwar (aged approximately 60), lived alone in this house. Their son, Nikhil Kunwar, works as an engineer and resides in Bengaluru.
The incident came to light when Nikhil, sitting miles away in Bengaluru, noticed suspicious activities and anomalies on the live feed of the CCTV cameras installed inside the house. In a state of panic, he immediately called a neighbor and requested them to check on his parents inside the house. When the neighbor entered the premises, they were left utterly shocked. The blood-soaked bodies of the couple were found lying in separate rooms. The Mithanpura police station was immediately alerted about this gruesome crime.
Police and FSL Actions
Upon receiving the information, Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra, City Police Superintendent, Town DSP, and heavy police force along with the Mithanpura station house officer rushed to the scene. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and a dog squad were immediately summoned to collect evidence.
The police recovered both bodies and sent them to SKMCH for post-mortem examinations. A thorough inspection of the crime scene revealed that the perpetrators executed the crime with meticulous planning and clever tactics. Police recovered rubber surgical gloves, a carry bag, adhesive tape, and other suspicious items from the spot. Initial investigations indicate that the attackers entered the house fully prepared so that no biological evidence or fingerprints would be left behind.
CCTV Footage Captures Two Unidentified Killers
The most crucial breakthrough in this sensational case came from the CCTV cameras installed inside and around the house. The footage clearly captured images of two unidentified killers. The age of the criminals is estimated to be between 24 and 25 years. Although they had their faces covered with masks or cloth to conceal their identity, their physical appearance and movements were recorded in some of the footage. Police are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby routes, where some suspects were spotted fleeing on a motorcycle. Based on the written statement of son Nikhil Kunwar and these technical leads, the police have launched massive raids to identify and apprehend the unknown culprits.
Modus Operandi and Extreme Brutality
According to preliminary police investigations and forensic examinations, the criminals targeted the elderly couple on different floors of the house:
Murder of Ashok Kunwar: Retired bank employee Ashok Kunwar was attacked with multiple knife blows in a room located on the ground floor or first floor. Several stab wounds were found on his body and back, leading to his instant death on the spot.
Murder of Neelam Kunwar: Subsequently, the criminals targeted his wife, Neelam Kunwar, who was on the third floor. They tied her hands and feet and tightly sealed her mouth with tape and a plastic polythene bag to prevent her from raising an alarm or screaming. She was then strangled and brutally assaulted to death.
Potential Motives and Police Investigation
The police are operating on the theory that this is not merely a routine robbery, but could be motivated by a deeper conspiracy, personal enmity, or a property dispute. Investigators are also exploring whether anyone who recently rented a room or lived in the vicinity has a direct connection to the crime. According to reports, the police are also examining the call detail records (CDR) of the deceased couple's mobile phones along with financial transactions and property documents.
Formation of an SIT
Following the brazen, broad-daylight murder of an elderly couple inside their home in Bihar, serious questions are being raised regarding the law and order situation. In response to mounting public outrage and pressure from local residents, the district administration and police department swung into action. The Muzaffarpur SSP has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to crack this double murder case and bring the perpetrators to justice at the earliest.
