Encroachment Removal Drive Conducted Near Mamrejpur Toll Plaza, Around 30 Illegal Kiosks Demolished to Improve Road Safety

A large-scale anti-encroachment drive was carried out near the Mamrejpur Toll Plaza on Saturday as part of an initiative to enhance road safety and ensure smooth traffic movement. During the operation, approximately 25 to 30 illegally erected kiosks, temporary shops, and other encroachments along the roadside were removed. The drive was led by Project Director Arvind Kumar in the presence of officials from the local administration, police, revenue department, and toll management.
According to officials, the increasing number of unauthorized structures around the toll plaza had significantly narrowed the roadway, leading to frequent traffic congestion and raising the risk of road accidents. The encroachments also obstructed the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, making the area unsafe for commuters. Considering these concerns, the administration launched the removal campaign to restore road safety.
The operation began in the morning under heavy police deployment to ensure law and order. Before initiating demolition, officials appealed to the encroachers to remove their belongings voluntarily. While some shopkeepers dismantled their kiosks on their own, the remaining illegal structures were removed with the help of earthmoving machinery.
Project Director Arvind Kumar stated that roadside encroachments are a major cause of traffic disruptions and accidents. He emphasized that no unauthorized construction or commercial activity is permitted within the designated area around the national highway and toll plaza. He added that similar drives would continue in the future to maintain safe and obstruction-free roads.
He further said that thousands of vehicles, including heavy commercial trucks and passenger vehicles, pass through the toll plaza every day. Illegal roadside shops reduce drivers' visibility and often cause vehicles to stop abruptly, increasing the likelihood of collisions. Crowds gathering around these shops also create traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience commuters.
Police personnel remained on high alert throughout the operation to prevent any untoward incident. Adequate security arrangements were made, and officials urged the public to cooperate with the administration. The drive concluded peacefully without any reports of violence or disruption.
Administrative officials revealed that the encroachers had been served verbal and written notices on several occasions before the action was taken. They were given sufficient time to vacate the government land voluntarily. However, after many failed to comply, the administration proceeded with the demolition.
Following the removal of the illegal structures, debris scattered along the roadside was cleared immediately to restore smooth traffic flow. Sanitation workers cleaned the area, and officials warned that any future encroachment would invite strict legal action.
Many local residents welcomed the initiative, saying that the illegal kiosks had long been responsible for traffic jams and frequent road accidents near the toll plaza. They expressed hope that the removal of the encroachments would improve traffic flow and make the road safer for motorists and pedestrians alike.
However, some affected shopkeepers expressed disappointment, stating that their livelihood depended on these roadside businesses. They appealed to the administration to provide them with an alternative location for running their shops. In response, officials clarified that unauthorized occupation of public roads and national highway land could not be permitted. They added that any rehabilitation would be considered only if provided under applicable government policies.
The administration reiterated that road safety would remain its top priority and that anti-encroachment drives along national highways, toll plazas, and other major roads would continue in the future. Officials also appealed to the public to refrain from occupying public land illegally and to cooperate in maintaining safe and efficient transportation corridors.
Authorities believe that regular enforcement drives will not only keep roads free from encroachments but also reduce the number of accidents, improve traffic management, and ensure a safer travel experience for all road users. Saturday's operation is being viewed as a significant step toward achieving these objectives.
