Electrocution During Farm Irrigation Leaves 20-Year-Old Youth in Critical Condition; Struggle Between Life and Death Continues at Hospital
SHIVNARAYANPUR/BHAGALPUR: A heart-wrenching incident occurred on Monday morning in Tiklujang village under the Shivnarayanpur police station area of Bhagalpur district. Amit Kumar, a 20-year-old youth engaged in agricultural work, suffered a massive electric shock while irrigating his field. The intensity of the current was so severe that the youth collapsed on the spot. He was rushed in critical condition to the NTPC Hospital, from where, given his fragile state, he was referred to Bhagalpur for advanced treatment after receiving primary care.
How Did the Accident Occur?
According to eyewitnesses, Amit was irrigating his crops using an electric pump set in his field in the morning. During the work, he accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire or a leaking wire from the pump set. As soon as the youth tried to touch the motor or the wire, he received a high-voltage shock. When fellow villagers working nearby heard Amit’s screams and saw him collapse, they rushed to the spot immediately.
Summoning courage, the villagers disconnected the power supply and pulled him away from the wire using a wooden stick. By then, Amit's condition had become extremely critical.
Primary Treatment at NTPC Hospital and Referral
The injured youth was immediately taken to the local NTPC Jeevan Jyoti Hospital for treatment. The team of doctors on duty provided immediate emergency aid. According to the hospital doctors, due to the electrocution, the youth’s body had suffered severe electrical burns, and his heart and respiratory systems were significantly impacted.
The doctors stated that Amit's condition is critical, and therefore, he has been referred to Mayaganj Hospital (JLNMCH) in Bhagalpur for better treatment and advanced medical care.

Upon hearing the news of this accident, Amit's family was devastated. His parents are inconsolable, as their young son—a pillar of support for the family—has fallen victim to such a tragedy. A large number of villagers reached the hospital and are praying for his recovery. Villagers described Amit as a hardworking boy who actively assisted his family in farming activities.

Specialists treating Amit Kumar stated that injuries from electric shocks can also damage internal organs; therefore, the next 48 hours are crucial for him. The entire village is wishing for Amit's speedy recovery.
