Double Attack of Heat and Humidity: Night Temperatures Rise by 0.9°C; Sweltering Conditions Leave People Struggling
Bhagalpur/Regional News: The scorching heat and oppressive humidity continue to grip Bhagalpur and its surrounding areas. The shift in weather patterns over the past 24 hours has disrupted daily life. While blistering sunshine and hot winds during the day have forced people to stay indoors, rising temperatures at night have further exacerbated the discomfort. According to meteorological data, the night temperature has recorded an increase of 0.9°C, making the nights no longer a source of relief.
Nights Becoming Sweltering
The impact of the heat has intensified to the point that there is no sense of coolness even after sunset. Typically, a slight drop in temperature at night provides relief, but the 0.9°C rise in the minimum temperature has disrupted sleep for many. Fans and coolers inside homes are blowing hot air, leaving people tossing and turning all night. This surge in temperature is being driven by high moisture levels (humidity), leading to an intense sense of sultriness.
The Havoc of Humidity and Sweat During the Day
The situation during the day is even worse. By 9:00 AM, the sunlight becomes so sharp that walking outdoors becomes difficult. Simultaneously, high moisture levels have pushed humidity to extreme levels, leaving people drenched in sweat. With low wind speeds, the atmosphere feels suffocating. Streets are largely deserted as people avoid venturing out during the afternoon. Those who must go out for work are facing a grueling experience.
Adverse Impact on Health
Due to this relentless heat and humidity, an increase in the number of patients in hospitals is being observed. Children, the elderly, and those with high blood pressure are particularly vulnerable to this weather. There is a rise in patients reporting symptoms of dehydration, headaches, and heatstroke. Doctors advise drinking plenty of water, consuming ORS solutions, and only stepping out in the sun when absolutely necessary.
Awaiting the Monsoon
People across the entire region, including Bhagalpur, are eagerly awaiting the monsoon rains. The severe heat and humidity are also scorching crops, further heightening concerns for farmers. Meteorologists state that until pre-monsoon activity or full monsoon rainfall occurs, there is little possibility of a significant drop in temperature. While high humidity is causing clouds to gather occasionally, the lack of actual rainfall is only increasing the humidity levels.
Increase in night temperature: 0.9°C.
Humidity levels: Between 70% and 85% (the primary cause of the sultry conditions).
Advisory: Avoid stepping out of the house between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Currently, city life has become entirely dependent on air conditioners, coolers, and cold beverages. If it does not rain in the coming days, this level of heat and humidity may further aggravate the hardships faced by the public.
