DM Abhishek Ranjan Inspects Flood-Affected Areas in Chausa, Directs Officials to Ensure Timely Relief and Essential Services
Madhepura: Amid rising water levels in the Ganga and Kosi rivers, District Magistrate (DM) Abhishek Ranjan conducted a comprehensive inspection of flood-affected areas in Chausa block on Thursday to review relief and rescue operations. During the visit, he inspected relief camps, schools, and vulnerable villages, assessed the facilities being provided to affected residents, and directed officials to ensure that relief materials reach every affected family without delay.
The District Magistrate made it clear that negligence or laxity in handling flood relief operations would not be tolerated. He instructed officials to carry out relief and rehabilitation work with complete transparency, sensitivity, and efficiency so that flood victims do not face unnecessary hardship.
Inspection of Schools
As part of his visit, the DM inspected schools located in flood-affected areas. He reviewed the condition of school buildings, sanitation arrangements, the availability of safe drinking water, and other essential facilities.
He instructed officials that if any school is being used as a relief camp, adequate arrangements must be made for food, drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and other basic amenities for the displaced families staying there.
Directions for Timely Distribution of Relief Materials
The District Magistrate directed officials to ensure the timely distribution of relief supplies to all flood-affected families. He emphasized that food grains, dry rations, tarpaulins, essential medicines, milk for children, and other necessary items should be supplied without delay.
He also instructed that the relief distribution process should remain transparent and that only eligible beneficiaries should receive assistance.
Special Focus on Safe Drinking Water
Considering the increased risk of waterborne diseases during floods, the DM placed special emphasis on ensuring the availability of safe drinking water.
He instructed officials to deploy sufficient drinking water tankers in affected villages, repair hand pumps wherever possible, and regularly monitor water quality.
In addition, awareness campaigns were directed to encourage residents to boil drinking water and maintain proper hygiene.
Strengthening Healthcare Services
During the inspection, the District Magistrate instructed health department officials to ensure the regular deployment of medical teams in all flood-affected areas.
He directed that adequate stocks of medicines, first-aid facilities, ambulance services, and medical personnel should remain available at all times. Special attention was ordered for children, pregnant women, elderly citizens, and other vulnerable groups.
Attention to Livestock Welfare
The DM also reviewed arrangements for livestock, including the availability of fodder and veterinary services. He emphasized that protecting livestock is equally important during flood situations.
The Animal Husbandry Department was instructed to organize veterinary camps and ensure timely treatment for sick animals in affected villages.
Officials Asked to Remain Alert
The District Magistrate directed officials from all concerned departments to remain vigilant and continuously monitor conditions in their respective areas. He instructed them to immediately report any emergency to the district control room.
He also ordered 24-hour monitoring of flood-affected regions and warned against any negligence in relief operations.
Interaction with Flood Victims
During the visit, the DM interacted with flood-affected residents and listened to their concerns. Villagers highlighted issues related to relief supplies, road connectivity, and drinking water in some areas.
The District Magistrate instructed officials on the spot to address these problems promptly and ensure that all genuine grievances are resolved without delay.
Continuous Monitoring of River Water Levels
The district administration stated that water levels in the Ganga and Kosi rivers are being monitored continuously. If the water level rises further, additional relief camps, rescue boats, and emergency response teams will be deployed immediately.
The Disaster Management Department has also been instructed to remain fully prepared with all necessary resources.
