Divine Mahashringar of Baba Garibnath: Sanctuary Decorated with 21 KGs of Flowers; Spicy Khichdi Offered to Devotees After Special Puja
Amidst the auspicious and celebratory atmosphere of the holy month of Sawan, a mesmerizing and grand spectacle of faith was witnessed at the famous Baba Garibnath Temple in Bihar. On this special occasion of Sawan, a grand Mahashringar of Baba Garibnath was performed using 21 kilograms of fresh and fragrant flowers. Devotees formed long queues from early morning to catch a glimpse of this divine form decorated in the sanctum sanctorum.
Chief priest of the temple, Ashutosh Pathak, performed the Rudrabhishek and worship of Baba with milk, curd, Ganga water, and other sacred items in accordance with Vedic rituals. Subsequently, during the evening hours following the Maharantik, a traditional and special spicy Khichdi was offered as bhog to Baba, which was later distributed as prasad among the devotees.
Grand Mahashringar: Lord Shiva's Abode Decorated with Flowers
The significance of visiting Baba Garibnath multiplies during these special days of the Sawan month. Deepening this faith, the temple was exquisitely decorated this time.
Use of 21 Kgs of Flowers: Various types of fresh flowers were specially procured for Baba's shringar from Kolkata and other nearby markets. The sanctum sanctorum and Baba's Shivling were decorated so captivatingly with roses, marigolds, jasmine, and bayanthi flowers that onlookers were left spellbound.
Divine and Ethereal Form: The subtle fragrance of the flowers and the chanting of mantras echoing across the temple premises completely transformed the environment into a deeply spiritual and Shiva-centric one. When the temple doors opened in the morning, devotees were overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing Baba's flower-adorned form.
Ritualistic Worship by Priest Ashutosh Pathak
As part of the sequence of religious rituals, head priest Ashutosh Pathak, along with his associates, conducted the worship amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns.
Panchamrit Bath: The priest first bathed Lord Shiva with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar (Panchamrit). This was followed by an abhishek using pure Ganga water and saffron-infused water.
Specific Worship Offerings: Belpatra, datura, bhang, madar flowers, sandalwood, and ittars (perfumes) were offered during the abhishek. Priest Ashutosh Pathak stated that this special shringar and worship of Baba Garibnath during Sawan dispels devotees' sufferings and fulfills their wishes.
Prayers for Well-being: At the conclusion of the puja, special prayers were offered for the peace, prosperity, and good rainfall of the country and society.
Mahabhog: The Tradition of Spicy Khichdi and Its Significance
Following the worship and Mahashringar at the court of Baba Garibnath, a special tradition was carried out, which remains a major attraction of the events here. At the conclusion of the puja, a grand bhog of spicy Khichdi was offered to Baba.
Specialty of the Bhog: This Khichdi is specially prepared with rice, lentils, fresh vegetables, and various traditional whole spices. According to Ayurvedic and religious beliefs, offering a warm and sattvic bhog to the Lord is customary during the month of Sawan.
Distribution of Prasad: After offering the bhog to the Lord, this delicious and energizing spicy Khichdi prasad was distributed among thousands of devotees. Devotees stood in lines to partake in this Mahaprasad, considering it Baba's blessing. They expressed that receiving this prasad brings immense peace and contentment to the mind.
'Har-Har Mahadev' Chants Echo in the Temple Premises
During the shringar darshan and the bhog offering, the entire temple premises reverberated with chants of 'Har-Har Mahadev' and 'Bam-Bam Bhole'. Shiva devotees who had arrived from far and wide stood in queues to witness this wondrous form of Baba Garibnath.
Heavy Influx of Devotees: Alongside locals from Muzaffarpur, a large number of Shiva devotees from surrounding districts also arrived on this special date of Sawan. A fierce enthusiasm to catch a glimpse of Baba was visible among women, youth, and the elderly alike.
Security and Management: Given the massive crowds of devotees, the temple management committee and local police administration remained fully alert. Devotees were systematically guided toward the sanctum sanctorum through barricades to prevent any form of inconvenience.
