District Administration Speeds Up Issuance of New Ration Cards, DM Kumar Gaurav Sets August 5 Deadline
Muzaffarpur: Thousands of eligible families in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district who have been waiting for new ration cards have received encouraging news. Taking serious note of the slow pace of issuing ration cards, the district administration has directed officials to complete all pending cases by August 5. District Magistrate Kumar Gaurav has warned that strict action will be taken against officials and employees who fail to meet the deadline.
The District Magistrate also instructed officials to ensure that eligible beneficiaries obtain all the necessary certificates, such as income, residence, and other required documents, so that no deserving family is deprived of benefits under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and other government welfare schemes.
Review Meeting Held at the Collectorate
A review meeting on the issuance of new ration cards was held at the Collectorate conference hall. The meeting was convened following directions from the Chief Secretary and attended by officials from various administrative departments, block offices, and the Food and Consumer Protection Department.
Chairing the meeting, DM Kumar Gaurav reviewed the district's progress in detail. The review revealed that only about 75 percent of the target had been achieved so far, while the remaining applications still require expedited processing.
Deadline Set for August 5
The District Magistrate directed all concerned officials to complete the verification of pending applications, document scrutiny, and issuance of ration cards by August 5 under all circumstances.
He emphasized that the government's priority is to ensure that every eligible family receives the benefits of the food security program without unnecessary delay. Any negligence or avoidable delay in the process will not be tolerated.
Warning of Action Against Negligence
DM Kumar Gaurav made it clear that departments or officials responsible for delays would be held accountable and face disciplinary action in accordance with government rules.
He instructed officers to closely monitor pending cases, submit daily progress reports, and immediately resolve any technical or administrative issues that may arise during the process.
Directions to Expedite Issuance of Required Certificates
The meeting also decided to accelerate the issuance of essential certificates needed for ration card applications.
The District Magistrate instructed the concerned departments to quickly process pending applications for income certificates, residence certificates, caste certificates, and other required documents, ensuring that no eligible applicant's ration card is delayed due to incomplete paperwork.
Relief for Thousands of Families
Thousands of families in Muzaffarpur have applied for new ration cards and have been waiting for approval for an extended period.

The administration has also appealed to applicants to submit complete and accurate documents while applying for new ration cards.
Officials advised beneficiaries to promptly provide any missing documents to avoid delays in processing their applications. They reiterated that ensuring benefits reach every eligible family remains the administration's top priority.
