Cloudy Since Morning, Heavy Rain Hits Tilkamanjhi Area at Noon, Bringing Relief to Farmers
Bhagalpur: The weather in Bhagalpur witnessed a significant change on Wednesday as dense clouds covered the sky from early morning, providing relief from the scorching heat and humidity. Around 12 noon, heavy rainfall lashed the Tilkamanjhi area, making the weather pleasant and offering much-needed respite to residents. The showers also brought smiles to the faces of farmers who had been anxiously waiting for rain.
Dark clouds had dominated the sky since the morning, indicating an active spell of monsoon weather. As predicted, the cloud cover intensified by midday, followed by heavy rain in Tilkamanjhi and several nearby localities, including Barari, Adampur, Station Chowk, Khalifabagh, and the university campus. The downpour, accompanied by cool winds in some areas, caused a noticeable drop in temperature.
The sudden rain affected traffic across the city. Motorcyclists and pedestrians took shelter under shop awnings and roadside structures while waiting for the rain to subside. Despite temporary inconvenience, most residents welcomed the rainfall, saying it finally brought relief from the intense summer heat.
The Tilkamanjhi locality recorded one of the heaviest spells of rain. Within minutes, roads were submerged, and waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas, causing difficulties for commuters. The rainfall once again raised concerns over the city's drainage system, as water remained stagnant on many roads long after the showers had stopped.
The rain proved especially beneficial for the farming community. Farmers across Bhagalpur district expressed happiness, saying the showers would accelerate paddy transplantation, which had slowed due to insufficient rainfall over the past several days. The fresh rainfall restored moisture to agricultural fields, creating favorable conditions for cultivation.
According to farmers, if intermittent rainfall continues over the coming days, it will significantly benefit paddy cultivation. Other crops such as maize, vegetables, and pulses are also expected to gain from the improved soil moisture. Agricultural experts noted that consistent rainfall during this phase of the monsoon is essential for healthy crop growth and higher agricultural productivity.
The change in weather also had an impact on local markets. Shopkeepers hurried to protect their goods as the rain intensified. Many residents took the opportunity to enjoy hot tea and snacks while watching the showers. Parks and public places witnessed increased footfall as people stepped out to enjoy the refreshing weather, while children were seen happily playing in the rain.
Health experts have advised residents to remain cautious during the changing weather. They warned that sudden rainfall after prolonged heat can increase the risk of viral infections, colds, and seasonal illnesses. People have been advised to change into dry clothes after getting wet and to consume clean drinking water to avoid health issues.
According to the weather department, Bhagalpur and its surrounding areas are likely to witness cloudy skies and light to moderate rainfall over the next few days. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in isolated places. Farmers have been advised to monitor weather forecasts regularly and plan agricultural activities accordingly.
Residents believe that the rainfall will not only provide relief from the heat but also help improve groundwater levels, ease the drinking water situation, and support agricultural activities. After several days of oppressive heat and humidity, Wednesday's rainfall has revived hopes for an active monsoon season. If the rains continue in the coming days, both farmers and city residents are expected to benefit significantly from the improved weather conditions.
