BJP MLA Maithili Thakur Raises Questions, Expresses Displeasure Over Police Action
Muzaffarpur: The recent 'Bharat Tiwari encounter' in the district is turning into a major controversy. While the police are projecting it as a significant success, serious questions are being raised at the local level. BJP MLA Maithili Thakur has now entered the fray, terming the encounter as suspicious and wrong.

Speaking to the media, Maithili Thakur stated clearly that it is difficult to believe the circumstances surrounding the Bharat Tiwari encounter. She claimed that preliminary information and statements from eyewitnesses point toward a 'fake encounter.' The MLA said, "Taking someone's life is easy, but in a society governed by the rule of law, the police must be held accountable at every step. The questions raised regarding the police's conduct in Bharat Tiwari's case must be investigated impartially."
Demand for Action Against Police Personnel
The BJP MLA stated in strong terms that if the police are found to be at fault in this incident, the responsible personnel must not be spared at any cost. She has demanded a high-level probe, stating that if the encounter is proven fake, a murder case should be registered against the guilty officers and personnel, and strict action should be taken. Maithili Thakur clarified that while she supports law and order, the police method of "taking the law into their own hands to deliver justice" cannot be justified under any circumstances.
Assurance of Justice to the Bereaved Family
The MLA met with Bharat Tiwari’s grieving family members and assured them of full support. She stated that she would raise the injustice faced by the family on every platform. She further added that if necessary, she would meet with the Home Department and higher officials in Bihar to submit a formal memorandum regarding the matter.
Stir in the Police Department
The police administration appears to be on the back foot following the questioning of the encounter by an MLA from the ruling party itself. While the police claim that fire was opened in self-defense, political rhetoric surrounding the incident may now expand the scope of the investigation.
