BJP Kisan Morcha Submits Memorandum to DRM, Demands Improved Facilities for Kanwariyas at Akbarnagar Railway Station

Bhagalpur/Akbarnagar: In view of the massive influx of Kanwariyas (pilgrims) and general rail passengers expected at Akbarnagar Railway Station during the upcoming Shravani Mela, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha has intensified its demand for the expansion of passenger amenities. On Saturday, representatives of the BJP Kisan Morcha submitted a detailed memorandum to Malda Division DRM Manish Gupta, urging the strengthening of passenger facilities at the station premises.

Rising Crowd and Lack of Basic Amenities

During the Shravani Mela, millions of Kanwariyas travel through Akbarnagar after collecting holy water from Sultanganj to offer it at Deoghar. During this period, there is an unprecedented increase in the number of passengers at the station. Leaders of the BJP Kisan Morcha noted in their letter that the current infrastructure at the station is incapable of handling the burden of the surging crowds.

The District President of the Kisan Morcha and other leaders pointed out that there is no adequate arrangement for Kanwariyas to stay or rest within the station premises. Consequently, passengers are forced to sit in the open or on the platforms, leading to significant hardship.

Key Points Included in the Memorandum

The memorandum submitted to the DRM specifically demands the construction and improvement of the following facilities:

Construction of Passenger Sheds: Construction of adequate sheds on the platforms is essential for the safety and convenience of Kanwariyas so they can find shelter from the sun and rain.

Complete Arrangements for Potable Water: To ensure the availability of pure drinking water amidst the intense heat, a demand has been made for the installation of additional handpumps and water coolers.

Sanitation and Toilets: The number of temporary and permanent toilets within the station premises should be increased, and a special team should be deployed for cleanliness.

Lighting Arrangements: Considering the safety of passengers, a request has been made to install high-mast lights and ensure adequate lighting across the entire station premises and the foot-over bridge.

Special Stoppages: Considering the convenience of Kanwariyas during the fair, a demand has also been made for temporary stoppages of certain express trains at Akbarnagar station.

Expectation of Prompt Action from the Administration

Leaders of the BJP Kisan Morcha stated that Akbarnagar Railway Station falls on a major route for the Kanwar Yatra; therefore, the standard of facilities here should be on par with other major stations. They warned that if these facilities are not fixed in time, passengers will face severe inconvenience.

While submitting the memorandum to the DRM, the delegation expressed hope that the railway administration would take the matter seriously and complete the necessary construction work before the commencement of the fair. They have also requested that local railway officials be directed accordingly so that the journey of the Kanwariyas remains pleasant and safe.
