Bihar Health Department Deploys 53 Specialist Doctors from 17 Districts to Provide Round-the-Clock Medical Care
Bhagalpur: The Bihar Health Department has finalized a comprehensive healthcare plan for the world-famous Shravani Mela 2026, ensuring better medical facilities for the lakhs of devotees and Kanwariyas expected to participate in the annual pilgrimage. Every year, millions of pilgrims from across India and abroad visit the region to offer holy Ganga water to Lord Shiva during the sacred festival.
To provide prompt medical assistance throughout the fair, the Health Department has decided to deploy 53 specialist doctors from 17 districts across Bihar. These medical professionals will remain on duty 24 hours a day at various healthcare camps and medical centers established in the Mela area to handle both routine and emergency cases.
Comprehensive Healthcare Plan for the Mela
The Health Department has prepared an extensive medical management strategy aimed at ensuring that pilgrims receive immediate healthcare whenever required during the festival.
The plan includes temporary health camps, first-aid centers, ambulance services, referral facilities, and the deployment of specialist doctors at key locations throughout the pilgrimage route.
53 Specialist Doctors to Be Stationed
This year's Shravani Mela will have 53 specialist doctors representing various medical disciplines.
The team will include experts in general medicine, emergency medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, anesthesiology, and other essential specialties.
According to the department, the presence of specialists will ensure that serious medical cases receive immediate attention and advanced treatment whenever necessary.
Official Deployment Order Issued
Manoj Kumar, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Health Department, issued an official order on Monday approving the deployment of all 53 specialist doctors.
The list of doctors has also been forwarded to the Civil Surgeon (CS) of Bhagalpur, who will coordinate their postings and prepare duty rosters for the duration of the fair.
Round-the-Clock Medical Services
The Health Department has instructed that doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, essential medicines, and emergency medical equipment remain available at all major healthcare camps 24 hours a day.
Special emergency response teams will also remain on standby to deal with critical situations.
Strengthened Ambulance and Referral Network
Adequate ambulance services will be deployed to transport patients requiring urgent medical attention.
A dedicated referral system has also been established to ensure that critically ill patients can be quickly transferred to district hospitals and higher medical institutions whenever required.
Special Focus on Heat Stroke and Fatigue
Kanwariyas often walk long distances during the pilgrimage, making them vulnerable to dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, fever, and other health complications.
To address these concerns, medical camps will be equipped with ORS solutions, drinking water, first-aid supplies, and emergency medicines to provide immediate relief.
Emphasis on Disease Prevention
The Health Department is also prioritizing sanitation and disease prevention during the festival.
Authorities have instructed officials to maintain cleanliness, ensure safe drinking water, provide adequate sanitation facilities, and strengthen waste management systems across the Mela area.
Special surveillance teams will monitor the situation to detect and prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Coordination Among Government Departments
The Health Department will work closely with the district administration, police, disaster management authorities, and other government agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

Advisory for Pilgrims
The department has advised devotees to stay well hydrated, take adequate rest during the pilgrimage, and seek immediate medical assistance if they experience any health-related problems.
