Bhagalpur Violence: Enraged Mob Targets Police and Civilian Vehicles; Jeep Overturned and Patrolling Van Vandalized
The violence that erupted under the guise of student protests in Bhagalpur has now taken the form of a calculated and violent rampage. The chaos that broke out in and around Tilka Manjhi Chowk posed a severe challenge to law and order. The aggressive mob not only pelted stones at police personnel but also systematically targeted administrative and private properties. Several government and private vehicles were badly damaged in the process, creating an atmosphere of terror throughout the city.
Attack on Police Jeep and Overturning It
During the violence, the prime target of the rioters' wrath was police vehicles. Some anti-social elements hiding among the protesters surrounded a police jeep. The jeep was subjected to a barrage of bricks, stones, and lathi blows, shattering its windows and heavily damaging its body.
The violence did not stop there. Demonstrating their aggression, the unruly mob overturned the police jeep right on the street. Following the emergence of videos and pictures of this incident, the administration's crackdown has intensified even further. Such direct assaults on police personnel made it evident that the troublemakers had set out to disrupt peace under a larger malicious intent.
Damage to Patrolling Van and Vandalism of Other Vehicles
Apart from the police jeep, the rioters also targeted a patrolling van cruising through the area. Stones were pelted at the patrolling van, smashing its glass and damaging its interior components.
Amidst this violent clash and stampede, private vehicles of ordinary citizens passing down the road also suffered heavy losses. The miscreants vandalized numerous two-wheelers and four-wheelers (cars and bikes). Motorists were forced to flee to save their lives, leaving several vehicles abandoned and wrecked on the streets.
Police Presence of Mind and Control Over the Situation
Despite the widespread violence and attacks on vehicles, the police personnel on duty maintained restraint amidst immense tension. However, seeing the situation spiral out of control, security forces summoned reinforcements and took charge. Strict measures were implemented to scatter the rioters, gradually dispersing the mob.
Following the incident, senior officials inspected the site and had the damaged vehicles removed from the area. The police have clarified that anyone who damaged public property (police vehicles) and took the law into their own hands is being identified through video footage. Strict legal action will be taken against them to ensure such incidents are not repeated in the future.
