Patients' Health Compromised at Mayaganj Hospital; Catering Agency Served Moldy Bread
Bhagalpur: Serious questions have once again been raised regarding the quality of food served to patients at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (Mayaganj Hospital), a critical healthcare facility in the region. An incident has come to light where patients were served moldy bread for breakfast. This incident has caused a stir within the hospital administration, and the families of the patients have expressed strong resentment over the agency's gross negligence.
According to the information received, on Saturday morning, when the scheduled breakfast was distributed to patients, several individuals complained that the bread served was covered in mold. As soon as the packets were opened, green and white patches were visible, which was a clear indication that the food was several days old and completely spoiled.
When the hospitalized patients protested against this contaminated food and informed the nurses and other staff on duty, the hospital management was made aware of the situation. Patients alleged that complaints regarding food quality have been made several times in the past as well, but the agency has shown no improvement.
Strict Stance by Superintendent Dr. H.P. Dubey
Taking serious note of the incident, Hospital Superintendent Dr. H.P. Dubey took immediate action. He visited the site, assessed the situation, and seized the contaminated food items. Furthermore, a 'show-cause notice' has been issued with immediate effect to the catering agency responsible for providing food to the hospital.
Superintendent Dr. Dubey has demanded an explanation from the agency on the following points:
Under what circumstances was such poor quality and contaminated food served to the patients?
Why was the quality of the food not checked prior to distribution?
Why should disciplinary action not be taken against the agency, and why should their contract not be terminated for this negligence?
Two-Day Deadline for Response
The hospital administration has given the agency a period of only 48 hours (two days) to present their side of the matter. Dr. Dubey has clarified that if the agency's response is found to be unsatisfactory, strict legal and punitive action will be taken against them. He further emphasized that any compromise regarding the health of patients will not be tolerated at any level.
Questions Raised on Hospital Management's Credibility
This is not the first time a controversy has erupted over food quality at Mayaganj Hospital. Complaints regarding cold or unhygienic food have been frequent. Social activists state that the committee formed to monitor the hospital's catering arrangements is not fulfilling its responsibilities effectively, the brunt of which is borne by the underprivileged patients.
Following this incident, the hospital administration has decided that random checks will now be conducted on every food packet provided to patients, and the process to blacklist any agency that compromises on quality will be initiated. Meanwhile, the patients' relatives have demanded that a heavy penalty be imposed on the agency to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future.
