BEO Tanu Kumari Conducts Surprise Inspections of Schools; Expresses Dissatisfaction over Ganganiya School, Issues Strict Directives for Improvement
Sultanganj/Bhagalpur: With the objective of streamlining the operations of the education department and improving the standard of teaching and learning in government schools, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Sultanganj, Tanu Kumari, conducted a special inspection drive on Tuesday. During this drive, she carried out surprise inspections of various schools in the Ganganiya, Kamarganj, and Jahangira areas. The visit saw a mix of satisfactory performance and blatant lapses, the latter of which drew sharp criticism from the BEO.
Gross Negligence Found at Ganganiya School
The inspection began at the school in Ganganiya. As soon as BEO Tanu Kumari entered the premises, she encountered several instances of mismanagement. From a lack of cleanliness to poor classroom coordination, the negligence was evident. When the BEO inspected the registers, she raised strong objections regarding the discrepancies between attendance records and the actual teaching activity being performed.
Disturbed by the filth on the school premises and the lack of proper seating arrangements for students, the BEO severely reprimanded the Headmaster. She stated that the government is spending crores on the quality of education and the health of children, yet the ground reality is deeply disappointing. She issued a strict directive to the Headmaster, stating that if improvements in campus hygiene and the standard of education are not visible within the next week, strict departmental action will be taken against him.
Mixed Results in Kamarganj and Jahangira
After Ganganiya, the BEO’s convoy proceeded to the schools in Kamarganj and Jahangira. The situation there was found to be relatively better compared to Ganganiya. The BEO visited classrooms and asked the students questions related to their curriculum. She praised the teachers when some students provided correct answers but warned them not to focus only on a handful of bright students, emphasizing that bringing every child in the class into the mainstream should be the priority of every teacher.
At the schools in Jahangira, the quality of the Mid-Day Meal was also inspected. The BEO instructed the kitchen staff to prepare food while maintaining high hygiene standards and personally checked the plates served to the children. She instructed the Headmasters to ensure that the kitchen staff wears proper uniforms and that special attention is paid to the nutritional value of the meals.
Specific Directives Issued to Headmasters
During the inspection, BEO Tanu Kumari issued strict directives to all Headmasters to focus on the following points for improvement:
Transparency in Attendance: Orders were given to ensure 100% attendance of teachers and students and to avoid any manipulation in biometric or manual registers.
Environment and Hygiene: Schools were directed to be declared 'No Plastic Zones,' and arrangements must be made locally for regular cleaning.
Adherence to Academic Calendar: All teachers were directed to complete the curriculum strictly according to the academic calendar prescribed by the department.
Holistic Development of Children: Emphasis was placed on sports and cultural activities, rather than just textbook knowledge.
Grievance Redressal: Instructions were given to hold regular School Management Committee (SMC) meetings and build better coordination with parents.
A Policy of 'Zero Tolerance' for Mismanagement
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, BEO Tanu Kumari stated that her main goal is to ensure quality education in all schools of the Sultanganj block. She said, "The purpose of the inspection is not to scare anyone, but to bring about reform in the education system. The department will not show leniency toward any Headmaster or teacher who does not discharge their duties with integrity."
She further added that she would submit a report on the Ganganiya school to the District Education Officer (DEO) so that permanent improvements could be made. She clarified that this series of inspections would continue, and negligence at any level would not be tolerated.
The Inspection Becomes a Subject of Discussion
The BEO's surprise inspection has become a topic of discussion throughout the block. Local parents have welcomed her proactive approach, believing that such vigilance from officials will secure the future of the children studying in these schools. Residents of rural areas expressed hope that if education officers continue to visit schools at regular intervals like this, the appearance and functioning of government schools will change for the better very soon.
It is expected that similar surprise inspections will be carried out in other schools in the near future, which has instilled a sense of positive fear and responsibility among the teachers.
