ASI Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe; Demanded 10,000 Rupees to "Help" in a Case

Muzaffarpur. Despite the ongoing campaign against corruption in Bihar, there is no shortage of officials tarnishing the reputation of the khaki uniform. In a major operation, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau team in Muzaffarpur district arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Munna Kumar Yadav red-handed while accepting a bribe. The ASI is accused of demanding 10,000 rupees from a villager in exchange for "helping" in a case and accepting 8,000 rupees as the first installment.

According to the information received, the case involves a resident of a village in the district. The victim was involved in a dispute that was being investigated by ASI Munna Kumar Yadav. According to the complainant, the ASI demanded a bribe of 10,000 rupees to favor him in the case and protect him from legal complications.

The villager filed a formal complaint against this illegal demand with the Vigilance Department. After verifying the complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap. As soon as the victim handed over the 8,000 rupees to the ASI as the first installment of the bribe, the vigilance team immediately swooped in and apprehended him red-handed.

Major Action by the Vigilance Team

Following the arrest, the vigilance team took the ASI into custody for interrogation. During the operation, the bribe money was recovered from the ASI, and the special powder used by the team for the trap confirmed the transaction. This action has sent shockwaves through the local police department.

Vigilance officials stated that a case has been registered against the accused ASI under the Prevention of Corruption Act. After the arrest, the accused will be presented before the special vigilance court in Patna.

Questions on the Image of the Police Department

This is not the first time a police officer has been arrested in this manner in the district, but it has once again shaken the trust between the police and the public. Senior police officials have reacted sharply to the incident. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Muzaffarpur stated, "Corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Elements within the department who are tarnishing the dignity of the uniform are being identified."

A Message to Corrupt Officials

This arrest serves as a stern message to all police personnel who engage in illegal extortion from common people in the name of service. The Vigilance Department has also appealed to the public that if any government employee or police officer demands a bribe in exchange for work, they should fearlessly report it to the Vigilance Department.

Following this incident, the question now arises: is this case limited to just one ASI, or are other individuals in the police station involved? The vigilance team is investigating the matter in depth, and further revelations are expected soon.
