BHAGALPUR: Special map camps are being organized by the municipal corporation with the objective of providing citizens in various wards of the city with easy access to building construction permits and map approval procedures right near their homes. In this sequence, during a camp recently organized, the general public and homeowners vociferously raised their problems. Amidst the heavy crowds and inquiries at the camp, locals have brought up a very serious and practical issue. Citizens have strongly demanded from the municipal corporation administration that the fees of architects (planners) authorized to prepare and get maps approved within the corporation should be explicitly determined at the municipal level.

Local residents and homeowners who reached the camp stated that when they go to get maps made for their small or middle-class houses, exorbitant amounts are charged at will by architects active in the market. During the camp, locals spoke openly and placed a demand before the corporation officials that just as government fees for various taxes, license fees, and map approvals have been fixed by the municipal corporation, the fees for engineers or architects preparing maps should also be determined in a transparent manner. Curtailing Economic Exploitation: The middle class and poor families of the city build their homes with their life savings. In such a situation, the hefty fees of architects ruin their budgets. If fees are fixed, the general public will be saved from unnecessary financial burden and exploitation.
Transparency and Uniformity: If the municipal corporation sets the rates for authorized architects, uniformity will be maintained across the city, and no consultant will be able to charge amounts exceeding the prescribed limit.
Simplification of the Map Process: Fee determination will curb middlemen and arbitrary behavior, allowing ordinary people to easily get their house maps approved without any mental stress.
