Adani Thermal Power Officials Meet Bhagalpur's New District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey; Project Progress and Land Acquisition Discussed

Bhagalpur: Senior officials of Adani Thermal Power paid a courtesy visit to Bhagalpur's newly appointed District Magistrate, Alankrita Pandey, to brief her on the status of the company's thermal power project in the district. During the meeting, the officials discussed the progress of the project, challenges related to land acquisition, fencing of the project area, and several other key issues affecting the project's implementation.

According to sources, the Adani Thermal Power delegation welcomed the new District Magistrate and provided a comprehensive overview of the project's current status. The officials informed her that while the project is progressing according to schedule in many areas, construction activities have been delayed at certain locations due to pending land acquisition.

A major focus of the discussion was on several mauzas (revenue villages) where the acquisition of land has not yet been completed. The officials explained that the incomplete acquisition process has prevented construction work from beginning in those areas. They also pointed out that the fencing of the project site remains incomplete because land in some sections is still unavailable.

The delegation informed the District Magistrate that fencing and infrastructure development are progressing smoothly in areas where land acquisition has already been completed. However, the absence of land in certain locations has created obstacles to maintaining the project's planned timeline. They requested the district administration's support in resolving the pending issues at the earliest.

The meeting also covered the technical and administrative progress of the project. Officials stated that work on power-generation infrastructure, internal roads, construction facilities, and other engineering activities is continuing. They emphasized that the pace of development could be significantly accelerated once land acquisition issues are resolved.

District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey sought detailed information regarding the project's current status, the affected areas, pending land acquisition cases, and the administrative procedures involved. She assured the officials that the district administration would review all pending matters in accordance with legal provisions and provide necessary administrative support wherever required.

During the discussion, the District Magistrate stressed that while development projects are important, protecting the interests of farmers and local residents is equally essential. She said that all land acquisition proceedings would be carried out transparently, fairly, and strictly in accordance with the law. Eligible landowners would receive compensation and benefits as prescribed under government policies.

Adani Thermal Power officials also highlighted the project's potential economic and social benefits. They stated that once completed, the project is expected to boost industrial development in the region, create both direct and indirect employment opportunities, and stimulate growth in transportation, local businesses, small industries, and the service sector. They added that the company is also working on initiatives aimed at skill development and employment generation for local youth.

Infrastructure development was another important topic discussed during the meeting. Officials spoke about the need to improve roads, electricity, water supply, and other essential facilities in and around the project area. They noted that these improvements would not only support the power project but also benefit nearby villages and local communities.

The District Magistrate directed the company to provide detailed reports on the project's progress, the status of land acquisition, pending cases, and future plans. She reiterated that the district administration supports development initiatives but emphasized that all work must be carried out in compliance with applicable laws and established procedures.

Both sides also agreed on the importance of holding regular coordination meetings to review the project's progress and address emerging challenges promptly. Company officials expressed confidence that with continued support from the district administration, pending land acquisition and other issues could be resolved quickly.

The delegation further informed the District Magistrate about the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including programmes related to education, healthcare, drinking water, skill development, and community welfare. They said the company intends to strengthen its engagement with local communities through various social development initiatives in the future.

The meeting, which lasted for nearly an hour, concluded on a positive note, with discussions focusing on strengthening coordination between the administration and the project management. The District Magistrate instructed officials to maintain regular communication and keep the administration informed about the project's progress.

Following the courtesy meeting and detailed discussions, the Adani Thermal Power officials departed. Although no formal decisions were announced, it is expected that the district administration will take appropriate steps in the coming days to address pending land acquisition and other project-related issues.

The Adani Thermal Power project is considered a significant industrial initiative for Bhagalpur. The first formal interaction between the newly appointed District Magistrate and the company's officials is being viewed as a positive step toward improving coordination and accelerating the project's implementation. Local residents will now be closely watching how quickly pending land acquisition matters are resolved and how the project progresses in the months ahead.
