Accused in Govind Sharma Murder Case, Onkar, Granted 2-Day Parole for Mother's Last Rites

Muzaffarpur: A pall of gloom descended on the household of Kumar Ranjay Onkar, an accused in the high-profile Govind Sharma murder case, on Wednesday morning following the demise of his mother after a prolonged illness. In this moment of profound grief, while the family mourns, Onkar’s father approached the court to ensure his son could pay his final respects and perform the last rites for his mother. On humanitarian grounds, the court has granted Onkar a two-day temporary release (parole).

A Father's Plea and the Court's Humanitarian Stance

Onkar’s father, Vijay Kumar Prasad, filed an application in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM). In a heartfelt appeal, he stated that Kumar Ranjay Onkar is his eldest son. His mother’s passing is an irreparable loss for the family, and according to Hindu traditions, it is essential for the eldest son to perform the funeral and last rites. The father requested a release of at least two days so that Onkar could attend the cremation at Simaria Ghat.

Considering the humanitarian aspect of the request, the court granted Onkar permission to participate in his mother’s final rites and related ceremonies on July 2 and July 3, under strict police escort.

The Background of the Case
