On this special occasion of the month of Shravan, a massive contingent of over 100,000 Shiva devotees (Kanwarias) wearing saffron attire set off for Deoghar amidst thunderous chants of "Bol Bam." The entire city of Sultanganj and the Namami Gange ghat echoed with this immense congregation of pilgrims. The significance of Sultanganj's Ajgabinath Dham (the banks of the north-flowing Ganges) during the month of Shravan has been profound since ancient times:
Commencing the Journey by Filling Gangajal: Shiva devotees arriving from every corner of the country camped out at the riverbanks since early morning. Following traditional rituals, after worshipping Mother Ganga, the Kanwarias filled their kanwars with holy Ganges water and began their foot journey toward Deoghar to offer it to Baba Baidhnath.
The Entire Region Draped in Saffron: From Sultanganj all the way along the unpaved Kanwaria path, only worshippers dressed in saffron attire are visible. Tremendous enthusiasm for this pilgrimage is being witnessed among children, youth, women, and the elderly alike.
