Bhagalpur: A 75-year-old man, Upendra Mandal, tragically lost his life in a road accident near the bypass toll plaza on Friday. Critically injured after being struck by a speeding Hyva truck, Upendra Mandal succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), Mayaganj. This tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety measures regarding heavy vehicles speeding recklessly on the city's roads.

Frequent Incidents Involving Heavy Vehicles

The area around the bypass toll plaza is increasingly becoming a hub for accidents. Police Action and Investigation

Upon receiving information about the incident, local police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case against the unidentified driver of the Hyva truck, and efforts are underway to identify the vehicle using CCTV footage. The Station House Officer (SHO) assured that the accused driver would be arrested soon and that appropriate legal action would be taken.

Demands for Administration Intervention

The death of Upendra Mandal has left the entire locality in mourning. Local citizens and the victim's family members have demanded that the district administration install speed breakers near the bypass toll plaza and ensure regular police patrolling to keep the speed of heavy vehicles in check. Residents emphasized that if the administration does not implement strict security measures on this route in a timely manner, such tragic incidents will continue to occur.

Currently, the police are investigating the entire matter. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
