26-Year-Old Heading to In-Laws' House for a Feast with His Cousin Dies in Tragic Road Accident; Family Devastated
A heartbreaking incident has emerged from the Habibpur police station area of Bihar's Bhagalpur district. A 26-year-old youth, who was happily heading to his in-laws' house following an invitation to a feast, met with a tragic death in a road accident. The incident occurred near the Nawab Colony (close to the cemetery) in Karaudi Bazar under the Habibpur police station limits late Sunday night, when two motorcycles collided head-on.
The youth riding the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while his maternal cousin was severely injured. Following the accident, the wedding bliss that filled the victim's house just a year and a half ago vanished in an instant, leaving the family members inconsolable.
Background of the Incident: An Invitation to a Feast from the In-Laws
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Irfan, the 26-year-old son of Mohammad Alauddin, a resident of Lalmatia Kabirpur. According to information received from family members, Irfan had tied the knot just a year and a half ago in Ganichak, located in Mojahidpur. The couple also has a four-month-old infant.
On Sunday night, a family feast was organized at Irfan's in-laws' house (Ganichak), to which he was specially invited. Irfan, along with his maternal cousin Mohammad Zeesham, left for his in-laws' house on a motorcycle at around 11:30 PM. Irfan was riding the motorcycle while Zeesham was riding pillion. Both brothers were laughing and chatting as they headed towards their destination, completely unaware of the tragedy that lay ahead.
A Head-On Collision Near Karaudi Bazar
As the two brothers reached opposite the Nawab Colony near the Karaudi Bazar cemetery under the Habibpur police station area, a speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction rammed violently into their bike.
Severe Head Injury: The impact of the collision was so intense that both Irfan and Zeesham were thrown off the bike and crashed onto the tarmac. Irfan sustained a severe injury to his head, resulting in massive blood loss, and also suffered a fractured arm.
Cousin Also Injured: Zeesham, who was sitting behind, sustained injuries to various parts of his body, though his condition was comparatively stable.
Accused Bike Rider Flees: Panic and chaos erupted on the road following the crash. The rider of the opposing motorcycle seized the opportunity and fled the scene with his vehicle.
Succumbed to Injuries at the Hospital; Grief Striking the Family
Seeing both youths lying bloodied and unconscious by the roadside, local residents rushed to help. Meanwhile, upon receiving information, a Dial-112 police team also arrived at the spot.
First Aid at Sadar Hospital: With the help of the police and locals, both the injured were rushed to the nearby Sadar Hospital.
Referred to Mayaganj: Observing Irfan's deteriorating condition, the doctors at Sadar Hospital provided primary treatment and referred him to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), Mayaganj, for advanced care.
Declared Dead by Doctors: Upon reaching Mayaganj Hospital, doctors declared Mohammad Irfan dead after a thorough examination. According to the doctors, he could not be saved due to internal head trauma and extreme blood loss. Meanwhile, his cousin Zeesham was discharged after receiving first aid for minor injuries.
Family Protests Over Delay in Post-Mortem
As soon as the news of Irfan's death reached his residence in Kabirpur, a heavy silence fell over the entire locality. Loud wails echoed from the house where wedding clarion notes (shehnais) were playing just eighteen months ago. The deceased's maternal uncle, Mohammad Islamuddin, along with other relatives, accused the hospital administration of sheer negligence.
The relatives claimed that the administration delayed the post-mortem of the body by more than 12 hours, which sparked their anger. Relatives protested inside the hospital premises, demanding that the legal formalities be completed immediately so the body could be handed over to them for the final rites (burial). The situation simmered down later following police intervention and counseling.
Police Action and Investigation
Regarding the accident, the injured cousin, Mohammad Zeesham, recorded his official statement with the police at the hospital. Based on this, an FIR has been registered against the unidentified motorcycle rider at the Habibpur police station.
Both Bikes Confiscated: Habibpur Station House Officer (SHO) Safdar Ali stated that the police have seized both motorcycles from the accident spot.
CCTV Footage Inspection: To identify the fleeing accused rider, CCTV camera footage from around Karaudi Bazar and the Nawab Colony Cemetery Road is being scanned. The police claim that the culprit will be arrested shortly.
