Revival of the Sugar Industry in Bihar New Initiatives

The state government is committed to making Bihar a major hub for sugarcane production once again. The details of the announcements made in this direction are as follows:

Revival of Closed Mills: The government aims to restart 9 significant closed sugar mills, including Raiyam, Motipur, Samastipur, Sakri, Hathua (Sasamusa), Marhaura, Chakia, Chanpatia, and Motihari.

Target for New Mills: Beyond restarting old ones, there is a comprehensive plan to establish 25 new sugar mills across various parts of the state.

Modern Technology: Both the old and new mills will be equipped with modern technology to ensure large-scale production of not just sugar, but also Ethanol, which will increase the economic viability of these units.

Increase in Income: With the sugar mills becoming operational, sugarcane farmers will no longer need to travel to other states to sell their crops. Local procurement will reduce transportation costs, providing direct financial benefits to the farmers.

Employment Generation: The operation of these mills will create direct and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of local people.

Industrial Development: This will improve the rural economy of Bihar and positively impact the state's GDP through the expansion of agro-based industries.

PPP Model: The government is focusing on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to restart these mills.

Land Acquisition and Investment: The Sugarcane Department is currently gathering details regarding the land where these mills were previously located to attract potential investors.
