Gaighat SHO Suspended for Negligence and Non-Compliance; Stir in Police Department

Muzaffarpur: In a major administrative action taken under the ongoing drive to streamline the policing system in the district, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gaighat police station, Rakesh Kumar, has been suspended with immediate effect. The action was taken based on a detailed report submitted by Rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar, which exposed several irregularities prevailing at the station level.

Grounds for Suspension: 'Unsatisfactory Performance'

According to sources, the Rural SP had been receiving persistent complaints regarding the functioning of the Gaighat police station for some time. Given the gravity of these complaints, the SP ordered an internal investigation. The inquiry revealed that the work performance of SHO Rakesh Kumar was far from satisfactory.

The primary reasons for the suspension include:

Disregard for Rules: The SHO failed to maintain law and order in the area and neglected the directives outlined in the police manual.

Apathy Toward Complaints: A lack of timely action on public grievances and unnecessary delays in registering FIRs.

Poor Regional Control: The SHO displayed minimal activity in curbing the rising crime rates and illegal activities within the station's jurisdiction.

Rural SP's Report Served as the Basis

In his report, Rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar clearly mentioned that not only was there indiscipline at the level of the SHO, but the efficiency of the police team under his leadership was also questionable. Repeated defiance of orders from senior officers and the backlog of files at the station level tarnished the department's image. Following the submission of this report, senior officials viewed the matter seriously and suspended Rakesh Kumar.

A Message to the Police Department

As news of the SHO's suspension spread, it created a stir among other police stations in the district. This move by the police administration is being viewed as a stern message. Senior officials emphasized that the primary duty of the police is to serve and protect the public; any official found lacking in this duty will face a policy of "zero tolerance."

What Happens Next?

During the period of suspension, Rakesh Kumar will be attached to the 'Police Lines' headquarters. The command of the Gaighat police station will soon be handed over to a new and experienced officer to ensure that law and order in the area is restored. Currently, efforts are being made to maintain smooth operations at the station through additional charges.

This action is a clear signal that the Muzaffarpur police are now committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in their operations. Local residents have welcomed the decision, expressing hope that the arrival of a new SHO will suppress criminal activity and provide better security for the citizens.
