Broken Idols of Goddess Santoshi and Goddess Kali Immersed in the Ganges at Nathnagar, New Temple Construction Begins Amid Vedic Rituals
Nathnagar, Bhagalpur: A remarkable display of faith and devotion was witnessed at the Baba Mansakamananath Temple complex in Nathnagar, where the damaged idols of Goddess Santoshi and Goddess Kali were ceremonially immersed in the sacred waters of the Ganges River. Simultaneously, the process of installing new idols and reconstructing the temple has begun with three days of Vedic rituals, chanting of sacred mantras, fire offerings (havan), and other religious ceremonies. A large number of devotees, local residents, and members of the temple committee participated in the event.
The idols of Goddess Santoshi and Goddess Kali had been worshipped in the temple complex for many years. Over time, the idols became damaged, and according to Hindu religious traditions, broken idols are not considered suitable for worship. Therefore, after discussions and approval from the temple committee and devotees, a decision was made to replace them with new idols. As per religious customs, the damaged idols were first immersed in the holy Ganges with proper rituals.
Grand Religious Procession Before Immersion
Before the immersion ceremony, a grand religious procession was taken out from the temple premises. Devotees participated enthusiastically, singing devotional songs and hymns. Women performed traditional auspicious songs, while youths filled the atmosphere with chants of “Jai Mata Di” and “Har Har Mahadev.” The procession passed through various local routes before reaching the Ganges riverbank, where priests conducted the immersion ceremony according to Vedic traditions.
At the riverbank, special prayers and rituals were performed. Priests recited sacred mantras and conducted the final worship and aarti of the idols before their immersion. Devotees bid an emotional farewell to the idols, offering prayers for peace, prosperity, and well-being for the entire community.
Three-Day Religious Ceremony Begins
Following the immersion, a three-day religious program commenced to mark the installation of new idols and the reconstruction of the temple. On the first day, Vedic scholars performed Ganesh Puja, Kalash Sthapana (installation of sacred pots), and Bhoomi Pujan (ground worship). This was followed by a special havan and yajna, during which devotees offered sacred oblations and prayed for happiness and prosperity in their families and society.
Temple committee members stated that the next three days would feature continuous Vedic chanting, recitation of the Durga Saptashati, Rudrabhishek, havan ceremonies, and other religious activities. The new idols will be consecrated through a formal Pran Pratishtha ceremony after the completion of these rituals.
Temple Committee Expresses Enthusiasm
Members of the temple committee highlighted that Baba Mansakamananath Temple is one of the most significant centers of faith in the Nathnagar region. Thousands of devotees visit the temple regularly for worship and blessings. The installation of new idols of Goddess Santoshi and Goddess Kali is expected to enhance both the spiritual significance and grandeur of the temple complex.
The committee also mentioned that, with the support of local residents, beautification and renovation work is being carried out throughout the temple premises. Additional facilities are being developed for devotees, which could help promote religious tourism in the area in the future.
Devotees Participate with Great Enthusiasm
The event generated immense excitement among local devotees. From early morning, crowds began gathering at the temple complex to participate in the ceremonies. Women, elderly residents, and young people actively took part in the rituals and celebrations.
Many devotees described the occasion as a blessing and a rare opportunity to witness such a significant religious event. They expressed confidence that the installation of the new idols would bring renewed spiritual energy to the temple and continue to shower divine blessings upon the community.
Adherence to Religious Traditions
Religious scholars explained that Hindu scriptures prescribe the ritual immersion of idols that become damaged or broken. Following these traditions, the temple committee ensured that the immersion was conducted according to all prescribed religious guidelines. Purification ceremonies and Vedic rituals are now being performed before the installation of the new idols.
Festive Atmosphere Across the Region
The three-day religious celebration has created a festive atmosphere throughout Nathnagar. The temple complex has been beautifully decorated with flowers, colorful lights, and religious flags. In the evenings, large numbers of devotees gather to participate in devotional singing sessions and grand aarti ceremonies.
Conclusion with Consecration Ceremony
According to the temple committee, the three-day program will conclude with the Pran Pratishtha (consecration ceremony) of the newly installed idols. Special prayers, a grand aarti, and a community feast (Bhandara) will also be organized. Devotees from nearby villages and distant areas have been invited to attend the concluding celebrations.
This religious event is being viewed not only as a temple reconstruction project but also as an important effort to preserve and strengthen the region’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Devotees believe that the newly installed idols will further enhance the sanctity of the Baba Mansakamananath Temple and continue to serve as a powerful center of faith and devotion for generations to come.
