Bihar Weather Update: Impact of Heat Continues, Monsoon Progresses

Despite the onset of the monsoon, many parts of Bihar continue to experience the impact of heat and humidity. Below are the details based on the latest reports from the Meteorological Department as of June 23, 2026:

Storm Warning: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a storm and lightning alert for 11 districts, including Darbhanga and Vaishali. Strong winds accompanied by rain are expected in these regions.

Heat Impact: Despite the monsoon's presence, the impact of humid, sultry heat is expected to persist in several districts through Tuesday.

Monsoon Progress: There is a positive development as the monsoon has now progressed further beyond Muzaffarpur. According to the IMD, the northern limit of the monsoon is advancing toward other parts of the state.

Rainfall Deficit: The monsoon status in the state is currently a cause for concern. 18 districts have recorded a rainfall deficit of more than 50% so far.

Overall Deficit: Across the state, average rainfall is approximately 42% below normal levels, which remains a matter of concern for agricultural activities.

Districts experiencing the most significant rainfall deficit include Patna, Banka, Gopalganj, Nalanda, Saharsa, Samastipur, and Muzaffarpur, where rainfall has been 60% to 80% below normal.

The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to stay in safe places and avoid taking shelter under trees during the alerts for storms and lightning.
