110 Bottles of Foreign Liquor Seized from Battery Box of Rampurhat-Gaya Train at Bhagalpur Station; Smuggler Flees After Alert Passengers Raise Alarm
In yet another sensational attempt to bypass Bihar’s strict prohibition laws through railway smuggling, the Railway Security Force (RPF) team at Bhagalpur Railway Station has seized a large consignment of 110 bottles of foreign liquor. The illegal haul was cleverly concealed inside the electronic battery box fitted beneath a coach of the Rampurhat-Gaya Passenger Train. However, due to the quick thinking of the passengers who raised an alarm, the smuggler abandoned the contraband and managed to escape.
The Incident: Vigilant Passengers Foil Smuggling Attempt
Suspicious Activity: While the passenger train was halted at the Bhagalpur Junction platform, a suspicious youth was spotted opening the technical battery box mounted underneath the train coach and stuffing bags inside it.
Passengers Take Action: As soon as commuters onboard and on the platform realized what was happening, they immediately raised a hue and cry.
The Escape: Rattled by the shouting passengers and seeing the RPF patrolling team closing in on him, the smuggler panicked and fled the station premises, taking advantage of the heavy rush.
RPF Action and CCTV Hunt for the Smuggler
Following the alert from passengers, the RPF team immediately took charge of the spot:
The Seizure: Upon opening the under-coach battery box, RPF personnel recovered a total of 110 bottles of foreign (Indian-Made Foreign Liquor - IMFL) of various premium brands, which were immediately confiscated.
CCTV Footage Scrutiny: To establish the identity and appearance of the absconding smuggler, the RPF technical team is actively scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed across the Bhagalpur station platforms, Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), and exit points.
According to railway police officials, smugglers transport liquor into Bihar from neighboring states like Jharkhand and West Bengal by shifting from general compartments to technical compartments. They are increasingly using spaces such as toilet ceilings, fire extinguisher boxes, and battery boxes beneath the coaches as 'secret chambers'. Following this incident, security checking has been intensified across all trains passing through Bhagalpur.
