Fact Check Policy

How we verify information

Inside Bihar aims to publish verified, contextual and responsible news for readers across Bihar. Fact-checking is part of our editorial process, especially for breaking news, public claims, viral content, crime reports, public health information, election-related material and stories that can affect reputation or public safety.

Our verification work depends on the nature of the story. For routine reports, we may rely on official statements, reporter observation, local sources and documents. For sensitive or disputed claims, we look for stronger evidence, additional confirmation and direct response from relevant parties where practical. We avoid presenting rumours, social media claims or forwarded messages as confirmed facts unless they have been independently checked.

Verification process

  • We check official records, public statements and credible sources.
  • We seek confirmation from relevant authorities or directly involved parties when possible.
  • We review images, videos and social media posts for context before publication.
  • We avoid publishing rumours as confirmed news.

When visual content is involved, we may check the original source, upload date, location clues, reverse-image results, captions and whether the content is old, edited or used out of context.

Source policy

  • Named sources are preferred wherever practical.
  • Anonymous sources may be used only when the information is newsworthy and source protection is necessary.
  • Claims from social media are treated as unverified until independently checked.
  • Readers can report suspicious or incorrect information to our team.

If a story cannot be fully verified immediately but is important to public interest, we may clearly describe what is known, what is not yet confirmed and where the information came from.
